The true meaning and power of dance was enveloped by year 9 dancers at the Arena Theatre in Wolverhampton on Tuesday 11th March. Performing alongside local schools and professional dance companies, Moreton dancers excelled in performance and professionalism.
The dancers were selected to participate in a 3 day workshop in January; exploring, selecting and choreographing movements alongside Protein professional dancers Patsi and John. Work was created specifically for our students ability and their “addictive personalities.” Composed around the concept of school identities, students experimented with technical movement sequences and independent composition. Patsi and John challenged dancers with the addition of props and extremely precise timing and formations. Incredible potential was noted from Jade, Armani and Jordan. Once workshops were complete, students worked independently to perfect their performance.
At rehearsals at the Arena Theatre on Monday 10th March, students met the director of Protein Dance Company, Luca Silvestrini, and having spent the day watching other school’s performances, set their piece with production features and costume.
The final performance was filled with pride, projection and purpose; filling the auditorium with smiles and acquired laughter.
Students are very eager to continue choreographing and performing as a group and therefore opportunities will be available after school on Mondays from 3.30 for new pieces to be built. John and Patsi are thrilled to hear that their endeavours will be continued in dance with these students and are equally eager to revisit and assist with the next piece.
Well Done to all involved…”It were greeeeeert!”
