Year 8 had an enjoyable and informative morning at the Whittington Barracks. They tried on WW1 uniforms, held rifles and other weapons. The real experience was the tour of a WW1 trench where the students got a glimpse at what life was like as a soldier fighting, and living, in a trench.
The mood was more sombre in the afternoon as we visited the National Arboretum where the students paid their respects to soldiers shot at dawn during WW1. As well as those who have died in subsequent conflicts.
This day has undoubtedly helped the students understand our learning of WW1.
