Science Day 2015
A science day for year 7 students to apply what they have learnt on reproduction to real life applications. Visitors from across the West Midlands and a variety of professions shared their experiences, careers and educational information with students. Students were visited by a midwife, senior embryologist and animal care college lecturers as well well as their animal friends!
A scientific day packed full of activities and information meant year 7 were well grounded in their curriculum knowledge on reproduction.
Students were able to recall their knowledge on the fertilisation steps and work in teams to produce a life-size comic strip incorporating their creative skills.
Students were visited by a midwife and learnt the importance of having the correct amount of amniotic fluid surrounding the foetus as well as all the main stages of development.
Students had a senior embryologist talk to them about conception and IVF. Students asked questions inquisitively and partook in a mini assessment to identify what they had learnt.
Finally students had vistas by two animal care college lecturers and their animal friends. Students took part in quizzes and watched interesting videos on animal attraction. Finally students were able to identify a male and female rabbit and take a look at mice.
Visitors commented on how well behaved the students were and how their questions were quite advanced and refreshing to hear.
