Students in Year 8 recently took part in a “Millinery Day” organised by the Textiles Department. They had the opportunity to work with professional milliner Kerry Aston who came into the school to share her expertise. Kerry is a very skilled milliner and her work has been used for fashion shows across the globe and worn by celebrities.
During the course of the day, students were taught how to use traditional millinery skills to create their own ‘fascinator’ hats from start to finish. The end results produced by students were awesome. They were all so different and were incredibly professional. A number of staff asked if they could borrow the fascinators made on the day for upcoming weddings!
Comments from some of the students involved in the day were:
“I really enjoyed the day and found it fun and really creative”
“I have loved learning how to make my own hat, it has been amazing! I loved every minute. It’s been incredible!”
“What a fun, exciting and interesting day! I have learnt new skills like blanket stitch and how to make my own fascinator. The best part of the day was putting the finishing touches to my fascinator. Today has been awesome!”
