What help are your children getting about their futures?
What’s been happening this year?
Year 11 Future Steps Event
As year 11 students started their final year, a whole day was set aside to share information about what options were available to them following their time in year 11.
A series of workshops were planned led by outside speakers linked to our local colleges (Wolverhampton, Dudley and Walsall ) university, apprenticeships and training providers – students were given an insight into qualifications, course requirements and application processes. Having this event followed by a one to one interview with Erika our Connexions advisor enabled our students to think carefully about what they wanted to do next and so start that process.
Careers Speed Date Event
In February 32 companies / organisations took part in our Careers Speed Date Event in the Sports Hall – students from years 8 to 13 were able to ask a variety of work related questions to employers linked to the NHS, Engineering, Police, Hairdressing, Teaching etc. Students were able to hear at first hand what skills and qualifications they would need, they chatted to apprentices, they heard what a typical day would be like.
‘What’s it like in the Workplace’ Event
This May our Year 10 students went out to various workplaces to gather information and get an impression of what it would be like to work there – this included hospitality, construction, engineering, hair and beauty, retail, the NHS, horticulture and volunteering- hopefully this will give our students a real idea of what skills and qualities are needed in the workplace.
