The Geography department have received some new fieldwork equipment over the past few weeks, including River Flowmeters, Anemometers and Digital Cameras. This will enable us to spend more time out of the classroom at Key Stage 3, as well as allowing us to meet the increased fieldwork requirements for the new Geography GCSE which starts in September. Year 7 have been busy studying microclimates around the school using Anemometers, a device which records wind speed as well as temperature. They found that the quad was the most sheltered part of the school due to the effect of the buildings creating shelter. They found that the school field was the windiest, as it was more exposed to the full force of the wind – reaching up to 8mph on a breezy Thursday morning.
