Can I just say what an absolute privilege it has been to accompany our Year 7 students on the recent Headstart session at Towers, the students have represented our school impeccably.
The challenges set for them consisted of life skills (bed making, laying the tables, clearing dinner items, making their own lunch etc) to physical and teamwork challenges (abseiling, canoeing orienteering) and then resilience and confidence building sessions (mixed group activities with another school – Heath Park, Evening activities outside in the dark, Hero based workshops via head start).
We also experienced some very challenging (and Welsh) weather – however the students never complained and still actively partook in ALL that was asked of them.
The students mixed well with Heath Park, and some of our students have made deeper friendships across school that I hope will continue as we all meet again at the next planned activity in around 6 weeks.
My stars of the trip were:
• Angel – whom didn’t want to attend at first, but has shone throughout the process, and has proved herself to be a very caring, open, resilient and selfless member of the Moreton team.
• Leighton – a quiet member of the team, but one who completed above and beyond what was asked for – both on the physical challenges, and as a young man. Very polite, caring and helpful to both our school and others (students and adults) alike.
Both of these students received an award from Headstart (as they agreed with my recommendation whole heartedly), however wondered if they (or the group as a whole) could get a special mention somewhere!.
Many thanks for the opportunity, and I look forward to the next Headstart activity.
