We have a dedicated and passionate team of maths teachers who aim to build and develop your child’s confidence in mathematical and problem solving skills. We aim to ensure that students develop a secure set of numeracy skills so that they are well prepared for their next step in life – whether that is into work, or to continue their education at college or university.
The department is committed to increasing the success of our students, improving motivation and as such will continue to make ourselves available to students who need extra assistance. The department offers an ‘open door’ and ‘out of hours’ attitude and regularly help students during lunchtimes and after school. Staff use a variety of teaching methods. Special emphasis is placed on active participation of pupils in lessons. They are encouraged to develop independence and to take responsibility for aspects of their studies.
All students have half termly assessments which provide students with a summative level, formative comments and targets to improve / work towards.
During Key Stage 3, years 7, 8, your child will follow the National Curriculum which builds on numeracy skills learned at primary and ensures all students understand the processes and can apply it to various problem solving questions. All students in year 7 and 8 will have maths 5 times a week
