‘Moreton Live’ is a school based community radio station covering the Low Hill, Bushbury and The Scotlands catchment areas. This is a pioneering new project that will provide opportunities not only for the students at Moreton Community School but also the wider community to contribute to the stations broadcasting content. We aim to develop the strengths and address the weaknesses of some of our harder to ‘reach and teach’ students through building their confidence as presenters. This will develop their communication/social skills and more importantly engage, motivate and inspire them to regularly attend school as they will be making a worthwhile commitment to the success of the project.
Shows will be wholly produced and run by students and broadcast daily into communal areas throughout the school. They will also be available to the wider community via Podcasts and the plan is to eventually stream broadcasts through our school website, providing useful information and updates about the local community, what’s on, school events and showcase interesting and topical news from our catchment area. We will invite members of the community to be actively involved with the shows content, creating better cohesion and a stronger link with local residents. ‘Moreton Live’ will be curriculum linked to our Music and English Faculties and will also provide a vehicle to air some of the music recorded and produced by students.
This project is also supported by our career pathways team and Connexions who will use the student’s experiences running the studio to focus their development potential into F.E or employment.
